The police in Montenegro have arrested the Polish citizen, Roman Zimian, in Podgorica, who is suspected of multi-million fraud.
Poland and South Korea have issued international arrest warrants for him.
After many months of research, members of the Anti-Crime Sector - FAST, have arrested the 51-year-old, the Police Administration of Montenegro said on August 18.
Zimian, along with his business partner, Stefan Morgenstern, are suspected of defrauding scores of people in Poland and South Korea, totaling approximately $21 million.
He is one of the founders and owners of the "Future net" fund, which deals with digital currencies, it was said in the announcement of the authorities.
FutureNet is directed by Roman Kazimierz Ziemian and Stefan Morgenstern.
The Poland-based platform was launched in 2014, while Roman and Stefan later launched a new platform – FutureAdPRO and created a new digital currency, FuturoCoin.
According to the police report, he is suspected of committing economic crimes, extensive fraud, money laundering, theft, as well as violation of the law, for which he could be sentenced to life imprisonment in South Korea.
According to the police, his partner, Stefan Morgenstern, "was arrested in Greece and then in Albania", while Roman Zimian was arrested in Italy in 2022, from where he escaped from house arrest.
Authorities in Podgorica said they arrested him in a new residential building, where he was hiding under a false identity.
The authorities have also confiscated technical equipment with which it is believed that the crimes were committed.
Authorities in Podgorica arrested another internationally wanted man for cryptocurrency fraud, Do Kwon, in March.
He is wanted by the United States and South Korea.
He and his business partner, Chang Joon, used fake passports and attempted to travel from Podgorica to Dubai.
For this violation, each of them was sentenced to four months in prison.
Chang Jun, who is only wanted by South Korea, has been extradited to that country, while Do Kyon is awaiting extradition.
